Satellite Telephone Services - 13 November 2011
Satellite telephone services are not permitted in India. However, unauthorized handsets of Thuraya, Irridium and other such satellite operators have been found in use since it is possible for individuals to avail satellite telephone services unauthorizedly in the country because satellite foot prints of Thuraya, Inmarsat, Irridium etc. are available in India. Tata Communications Limited is permitted to provide Inmarsat services in India which is being done through their Land Earth Station (LES) at Dighi (Pune) after a no objection certificate is issued by DOT on a case to case basis. Satellite telephony through Thuraya sets is unauthorized. The unauthorized use of such sets have serious security implications. Therefore whenever Thuraya sets are detected to be in use they should be seized and the holder can be prosecuted under section 6 of Indian wireless Act and section 20 of Indian Telegraph Act. Under the law people including tourists found to be making unauthorized use of satellite telephone services will be prosecuted and all the sets found in possession of any individual will be seized.
Indian Nationals Registration - 17 August 2011
Embassy of India, Doha has started registration of all Indian nationals residing in Qatar. For this purpose a link has been provided on the website of the Embassy, www.indianembassyqatar.org, where Indian nationals can log in and register their details.
All Indian nationals, who live and work in Qatar, are requested to register themselves with the Embassy so that Embassy can have their information for better outreach.
Tracing the Roots - 19 June 2011
The Ministry of Overseas Indian Affairs launched a scheme called “Tracing the Roots” in October 2008 to facilitate PIOs in tracing their roots in India. PIOs who intend to trace their roots in India need to apply in a prescribed Form, through the Embassy of India, Doha. Application Form for this purpose is available on the website of Ministry of Overseas Indian Affairs at www.moia.gov.in.
Persons of Indian origin desirous of tracing their roots in India would be required to fill up the prescribed application form and deposit it with the Embassy along with a fee of Rs.30,000 ( Rupees Thirty Thousand only) in equivalent Qatari Riyals.
All useful information/documents that could be of help in tracing the roots may be submitted alongwith the application. In case the attempt is not successful, the Embassy of India will be authorized to refund Qatari riyals equivalent to Rs.20,000/- (Rupees Twenty Thousand only) to the applicant at the official rate of exchange. Important Announcement - 10 April 2011
It has come to the notice of the Embassy that some private companies in Doha are engaged in getting attestation of educational certificates and other documents from India. They claim to be authorized by the Embassy. It is clarified that Embassy has not authorized any company to handle attestation work and any person availing of their services shall do so on the basis of his own judgment of the credentials of the company. The Embassy will not be responsible for any loss or damage to the certificates as a result of the action of these companies.
